An Eye for Neighbourhoods

Many signs signal something unique about projects developed by Doug Casey and his trend-setting Charlesfort Development Corporation. There are the little signs like a developer explaining to a concerned community group why we can't build a "Doug Casey project" before anyone even mentions Casey's name. There are the literal signs, such as the "for sale" boards that appear and quickly disappear soon after a sold-out project is finished as investors re-sell units for a profit.

Then there are the big signs. In 2000, Casey's small company beat out much larger firms to be named Ontario's Condominium Developer of the Year, followed in 2002 with Building magazine's Canadian Developer of the Year. With a staff of 12, the firm has almost doubled over the last year. And, finally, there are those sweet coups, which Casey seems most to relish. Recently, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien spurned the high profile Daley condominiums for Charlesfort's just completed Dufferin Terrace.
